Stiftung Das Tier im Recht

Stiftung für das Tier im Recht (TIR) – independent charitable and political non-profit–organization founded in December 1995. Main purpose: continuous improvement of the human-animal relationship in the law, ethics and society. TIR established itself as a center for legal and ethical animal welfare aspects through its ongoing advocacy efforts. TIR offers seminars at educational institutions (e.g. University of Zurich) emphasizing the legal protection of animals to future lawyers, judges and officers. It further trains motivated jurists to become specialists in the field of animal law and offers them the opportunity to contribute to animal welfare. The Foundation offers a wide range of services including educational materials on the proper care and treatment of animals and frequently publishes judicial reference books, information brochures and articles to sensitize society to its responsibility towards animals. At the heart of the Foundation is its library comprising over 15’000 publications on the animal in law, ethics and society – a collection of international literature which serves as an almost inexhaustible source of information for practitioners, scientists, students, and all other interested parties. A close cooperation exists with the Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) in Portland.
